If you are a student or learning cloud infrastructure, Amazon provides a free tier of AWS for 12 months to gain free, hands-on experience with the AWS platform, products, and services. But to get this AWS free tier, you need to sign up using your credit card. Now, what if you are a student or someone who doesn’t have a debit card? Don’t worry we will discuss a trick that you can use to avail this AWS free tier without an actual credit card. Before we begin, remember this guide is not about getting AWS free tier without a credit card as it is not possible rather we will use a virtual credit card. Let’s learn how to do it.

Steps to get a free virtual credit card

Step 1:

To get a virtual credit card for free we will install an application “Pockets by ICICI Bank” which is available on the Play Store. You can download it from here. Pockets- Bill Payment, Recharge, UPI on the wallet – Apps on Google Play 

This is a payment application by ICICI bank which will help you to create a free virtual credit card with just a few steps. You just need Aadhar Card/Driving License/Passport to create an account on the Pockets app.

Step 2:

Create your account with your details such as First Name, Last Name, Aadhar card details, Birth Date. Make sure you enter your First name and Last Name as per your identity card ( Aadhar card).

These are the only details you need to provide for the application. We choose this application for creating a free credit card as you are not required to provide any more personal details. The application completes your Half-KYC with just your Aadhar card.

Step 3:

After this your account will be created and you will be prompted with the screen as shown below in the image.

If you can notice on the topmost section of an application, you will see a “Pocket’s wallet”, which is your virtual credit card. If you will tap on it, you will get your CVV and Expiry date of your card.

Step 4:

Now the main objective of the process is to get AWS free tier with this Credit card. As per the requirements, AWS will deduct Rs.2 for the confirmation of your credit card, but nothing to worry about as your money will be refunded back after two days.

Step 5:

So the last step is you have to arrange Rs.2 from your friend or family. It is not a huge amount so someone will surely help. After you successfully perform every step, you are now ready to use your credit card to signup for AWS Free Tier.
